Despite Upon Wings’ EP Afterlife being produced by Brett Hestla (ex-Creed, Dark New Day), Mastered by Kid Rock recording engineer and Grammy-nominated mixing engineer Glenn Brown, and with assistance by producer and guitarist Kevin Jardine (Slaves on Dope), this release has minimal metal shine, if anything more than a glint. In fact, it shouldn’t be considered rock at all. With recording at Johnny K’s Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, where Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Staind, and other hard rock artists have recorded albums, it’s a wonder that at least some of that sound didn’t rub off.
